Sunday is always a great day to try new recipes and food combinations. This afternoon, we planned to make a big salad with fresh garden tomatoes and peppers, green leaf lettuce, carrots, and a dressing of lemon juice, garlic powder, and sea salt.

Sometimes, it is hard to get motivated to prepare a meal. I find that once I jump in and start washing produce, I get a little more inspired each minute. Music is also helpful, or an animated kitchen helper. Another key to success is to always shine your sink at the end of the day! When I wake up to a dirty kitchen, I usually just want pancakes instead of FOOD.

Today, while we made the salad, we had a DVD from Dan McDonald playing in the kitchen, and he inspired us to make a dip for our garden zucchinis. The experiment was a success, and we ended up very full and satisfied.

We make our meals really special by preparing a lovely table setting, using candles, cloth napkins, a tablecloth, and our best china and flatware. Just because the food is simple does not mean it should not be put on a pedestal!

The dip:

Sesame seeds, tomato, basil, onion, garlic, zucchini, avocado, red pepper, salt, habanero pepper, cumin.
